Wednesday I had John Hilliard and friends, Tony, John and Don out for a half day of Fluking. We went out Manasquan Inlet and was met by 3 to 5 foot swells, we continued about a mile and stopped to see how bad it was, well I thought here we go back to fish in the river and they all looked at each other and said, “not bad Capt lets fish” so I continued out to the Sea Girt Reef. Seas were laying down a little as got farther out (2 to 4) so we stopped a little short of the reef on some good area that I have had luck on. We made 1 drift with the sea anchor out and with the tide pushing from the South and chop on top of the swells coming from the North. Thank god I cut the squid up at the dock. well first drift 3 keepers 20 to 24″ and 4 shorts (of course 17″) then we made a second drift with 2 more keepers 20″ to 22″ when Tony hooked up this mean Bluefish and after 10 minute fight we released him. Then we had another 20″ fish and then Tony yells I on again and after a few minutes he says I lost him but when he finally gets him up this fish was at least a 24″ fluke but one problem he was attacked by some ferocious bluefish, we estimated he was hit at least 3 to 4 times, we layed him on top of the other big fish and what was left of him covered up the larger fluke. What a crew these guys were, they were like Marines they never gave up or whined 1 little bit. Come on back guys I like fishing with real fisherman, not sailors.
