HELLO, here’s a trip for you. Monday, the John Zietsinger charter headed by Scott had a super day. It was a planned bluefish chumming day. We went down to the Shrewsbury Rocks and proceded to chum and use frozen bunker for the baits. When we got there we had no hits as the tide crapped out. The baits went right to the bottom with no sinkers and the bluefish did not hit! What a way to start. The next thing I know we have a double hook up. Great, the blues are starting to hit! Buuuuutt no, the first line came to the surface and I saw the tell tale dorsal fin of a striped bass fighting on the surface. We landed the fish and it measured 30″. Not bad for a start. Meanwhile, the other angler, Jeff, was still fighting his fish and the drag was going out. The battle was still on! He finally brought the striper to the boat and I netted it. It was a full 40″ plus long and weighed 19 lbs.!! The heck with the bluefish, but that was the last striper. It turned out to be Jeff’s first striper ever. Pretty good first fish at 40″. CONGRATULATIONS JEFF!! We moved to another spot to try and find some current and the blue fish hit the rest of the day. The fish were up to 10 lbs. and we released plenty. We had double and triple hook ups. In the meantime, one angler had his bait go to the bottom and he pulled up a 21″ Sea Bass!! What a beauty with all the blue lines on his head. That was the largest Sea Bass ever caught on the boat, I only wish I had weighed it!! It turned out to be a super day of fishing. Yesterday we had aboard the Fred Richardson charter for a good pull of fluke. We had a good catch up to 22″. Plenty of fish just missed the mark by less than a 1/2″. And we had constant action all day.
Open dates for August are: 23, 29, 30. September dates available are: 1, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 11-14 ,16. I almost forgot to mention, we had out the Ernie Aponte charter Friday evening in the storm. Between downpoors and lightening flashes, we had striped bass drifting worms. So in September, the bass fishing will start heating up.
