After a long hiatus finally got a chance to be back on the water instead of just writing about it. As this was the first run of the new boat, “Life Is Good” it was more of a shakedown cruise than anything else. After a getting to know the boat a bit we decided not to waste a nice day on the water and dropped a few killies overboard (as did my daughter) as we set up to drift along he edge of the eastern side channel across Sandy Hook Bay. First fluke hit in a few minutes and measured a solid 22 inches, a few more minutes and another just short of 18 inches went back over. Of course hearing of better fishing in the channels I foolishly decided to see what we could do elsewhere. Elsewhere proved to be anywhere there were no fish as we managed only a good quality assortment of seas robins for the rest of the afternoon alongside most of the fleet. Guess it just proves once again, you never leave fish to look for fish, but needed to spend some time running the boat and getting used to it’s handling, etc. Ok that’s really just an excuse at this point. Still great to be out there with the family.
