Hello from the crew of the CAPT. DAVE,
Be sure to stop-by our website at http://www.CAPTDAVE.net
Fluke fishing is still on the slow side, but the fish have been nice – in the three to five-pound range. Bluefishing is red hot right now with most of the toothy critters in the three to ten-pound range, and there are lots of them as most parties have been practicing catch and release within an hour or so. We’re suggesting that any charters wanting to get in on this action book now, as while the action has held up for two weeks, Captain Dave does not know how much longer it will continue. Also, all of these bluefish catches have been in calm waters, so guests that may be prone to seasickness will be able to enjoy the action on these tackle busters. Weakfish reports have been spotty, but many clients are booking ahead to get in on the action when it hopefully arrives. Lastly, we have fall openings available for groups that want to try for weakfish, and we are looking forward for the run of striped bass, which many clients enjoy.
Aug 1st: The Rite-Way plumbing party, headed by Tom Cocoan. After several cancellations, this party finally got their chance. This group wanted action so a trip to the bluefish area was in order. As soon as their lines hit the water a fish was on, and they enjoyed non-stop action with these choppers. The pool winner of the party was Carmine Testa who did battle and won with a 10-plus-pound blue. Nice going Carmine!
Aug 2nd: The Wachovia party from North Bedminster sponsored by Richard Policastro. Rich did it up right for his clients and friends with plenty of food and refreshments. We took this charter fluking down the beach. A solid pick of good size fish were encountered, and the baits of the day were killies, spearing and squid. The skillful angle taking the pool on this charter was Adam Feibish with a 4-pound fluke. Nice catch Adam! A great crowd, they were a pleasure to fish with. Hope to see you folks again soon.
Aug 4th: The Ken Song party from Rivervale. A trip we look forward doing every year. Each year the group gets larger and larger and now the trip is almost a tradition for this crowd. They bring their chopsticks, dip sauce and favorite libation to complement the catch and enjoy the freshest sashimi in NJ. We seldom return to the slip with whole fish…just the racks. David Joo of Rivervale landed the largest fish of the day with a 5½-pound fluke. Congratulations David on your catch! We look forward to fishing with our friends again next year.
Aug 4th PM: The Rick and Dawn Lazar party from Bethlehem Pa. Captain Kevin took this group to fish the outside beaches where there were fluke for the catching. John Fisher of Lehishton, PA took the pool with a 22-inch fluke, and the high-hook pool was a tie between Andy Conrad and Dawn Lazar. A nice group, these folks are welcome back any time.
Aug 5th: The Congregation Brothers of Israel headed by Marc Epstien from Elberon. This was a family group and fluke fishing was the order of the day. A strong wind-against-tide condition made fishing outside uncomfortable, so we were limited to the areas that were fishable. Even so, Abraham Tuug was able to catch the pool fish - a nice sized fluke. Nice fish Abraham, congratulations! Another nice group, we enjoyed the day with them, and they’re welcome aboard any time.
Aug 5th PM: The Inset Inc. party from Mt. Olive headed by Anna Bird. Anna requested that Capt. Kevin put her party on some action. Capt Kevin took this party to one of his favorite fishing holes, and the fish were there and hungry! Non-stop action on the blues was in order, and 40 fish were taken. The pool winner of this charter was Jennifer Midget with a 12-pound blue, and five year-old David Bird got his fish - an 8 lb blue as most as big as him! A nicegang, and all good fishermen, we’re looking forward to fishing with this group again soon.
Thanks again for your generous gratuities, we’re always happy to be out on the water with you, and we’re looking forward to seeing you all this season!
Best wishes,
Brett Chamberlain
