Hello from the crew of the CAPT. DAVE,
Be sure to stop-by our website at http://www.CAPTDAVE.net
Now booking striped bass charters through November! This weeks charters focused primarily on bluefish. Though they were shorts, the first striped bass of the fall season were boated this week. The blues caught were the largest of the year thus far with some in the 15-pound range. Weakfish seem to be in short supply.
Sept 25th: The Duane Reade party, headed by John Rieman. This group charters the CAPT DAVE every year at this time, and they are always welcome guests. They usually fish for weakfish, but because of the poor run this year they opted for a try for blues. After getting a good chum slick going, they had good action on the choppers all day long. John brought some of his female co-workers along, and need I say they of course took the pool fish. Abby Anderson of Woodbridge took the pool with a blue in the 10-pound range. Congratulations Abby, nice fish! You have the trophy ‘till next year!
Sept 27th: The Luce, Schwab & Kase party, headed by James Luce. Another group that we look forward to fishing with every year. This party also likes to weakfish but opted a try for blues. Going to one of our favorite fishing holes, we gave it an all-out try for blues, but only a slow pick resulted. The only thing that I can attribute this to was the full moon. The pool winner on this charter was Brian Houser from Fairfield. Nice fish Brian! We’re looking forward to fishing with this group again.
Sept 28th: The Steve Myers group from Prudential Annuities. Steve treats his co-workers and friends several times a year to a fun day out on the CAPT DAVE. Going to our favorite bluefish hole, this party gave it a try for blues. We saw a slow pick of fish for most of the charter, but as faith would have it, and as time ran out, the fish stared to bite. A three-way-tie for the pool was noted: Brian Pomeslan from Paramus, John Stankevics from Red Bank and Steve Myers from Toms River. A great gang, they’re all good fishermen, and we hope to see you guys on a fall striped bass charter!
Sept 28th PM: Next up, the accounting firm Salenno, Gannon & Angelo from Clark. The pressure was on this time as the last time they were with us, we could not buy them a fish. A change of tactics was in order, so Captain Dave had me rig them up for jigging. A ride outside to the ocean was to follow, and the fish gods decided to smile on this group. Huge flocks of birds worked over schools of fish, beating the water white in a feeding frenzy. Working only four rods, huge chopper blues and stripers attacked our lures with a vengeance. The battle between man and beasts began. Huge blues in the 15-pound range came over the rails, giving this gang a real workout, and in no time we were practicing catch and release. These were nice-going guys. Eleven-year-old Anthony Paric from Clark took the pool with a huge blue. Thanks for having faith in the crew of the CAPT DAVE and giving us a chance to reprieve our reputation. You deserved that great time.
Sept 29th: High winds from a fast moving front forced us to cancel our AM charter. The PM trip brought the ACIES group from Fairfield, headed by Peter Witt. Capt Kevin took this party to the areas surrounding the tip of the hook and the rip, drifting sandworms and peanut-bunker for a mixed bag. The pool winners on this charter were Andrzey Borosuk and John Rajki Jr. Nice going guys!
Sept 30th: The Guy Stevens party from Middletown booked the day with the CAPT DAVE. This group fishes with us several times a year and are always welcome because they love to fish. The party wanted stripers, so Captain Dave took us to an area where fish were actively feeding. While the bass did not cooperate as it was a bit early in the season for them, the blues certainly did. It was non-stop action on tap all day with big bluefish keeping the rods bent, and this group was practicing catch and release in no time. Sosa took the pool with a yellow-eyed demon in the 13-pound range. Nice fight Sosa! We’re looking forward to fishing with this group again in about three weeks once the bass are in.
Sept 30, PM: The Chris Black party from Middletown. A strong wind kept this party captive to a small area within which it was possible to fish. Armed with three flats of worms, peanut bunker and bunker, Capt Kevin returned to the tip of the hook and the famous rip, and this group fished hard into the night for a mixed bag of indigenous species. The pool winner on this trip was John with a BIG stargazer. Congratulations John! It was Chris Black’s bachelor party, so a big congratulations goes out to Chris! A nice group, they were all good fishermen.
Thanks again for your generous gratuities, we’re always happy to be out on the water with you and we’re looking forward to seeing you all this season!
Best wishes,
Brett Chamberlain
