Hello from the crew of the CAPT. DAVE,
Be sure to stop-by our website at http://www.CAPTDAVE.net
The majority of our charters were for bluefish, and no one was disappointed. Weakfish are long overdue as the harbor is loaded with peanut bunker. There is still a body of fluke to be caught, and nice sized fish too. The Hi- Mar charter had a very good catch. With less than 16 days left for the fluke season, don’t delay. Give us a call!
Aug. 14th: The Bank of America party, headed by David Cohen. This party wanted to get in on the bluefish action, so we loaded up the CAPT DAVE with bunker and off we went. We had good fishing for most of the day, then we gave it a try for weakfish on the way home. It was very disappointing as not one weakfish was hooked, especially since we were using peanut bunker which I netted fresh that morning. Pat Tierney took this day’s pool with an 11-pound blue, and Larry Haiken scored the most fish. A nice crowd, they were all good fishermen, and we hope to see this group again.
Aug. 17th: Helen Joy from West Milford chartered the CAPT DAVE for her family. She made the booking, got the guys up, made breakfast and boxed lunches for the crew, and yet she wasn’t invited? Another trip to the bluefish grounds was in order. We had a good pick of five to nine-pound fish with plenty to take home. The pool winner on this charter was Michelle West, though we think the real winner is David Joy whose wife Helen Joy put the whole thing together. Better bring her next time, Dave!
Aug18th: The Manatee Environmental party from Voorhees came aboard the CAPT DAVE. This gang did it up right with plenty of subs from Slater’s and lots of refreshments. When we got to the marina, the wind was out of the NNW at 30 knots-plus, and due to the conditions, we wanted to cancel the charter. Nevertheless, the group insisted, saying: “what are we going to do with all this food?” A 1-1/2-hour ride to the back bay in 5ft.-plus seas ‘till we hit calmer water. Drifting across the channel, this party had a decent pick of fluke in the 19-inch range. The pool winner on this charter was Al Tuorinsky of Sparta. Nice going Al! These are repeat customers on the CAPT DAVE, and we will see them later in Sept.
Aug 18th PM: Matt’s gang from Staten Island, another repeat customer, wanted a try for the bluefish action. Capt Kevin took the group to our productive spot, and alas, we were rewarded with a steady pull of the yellow-eyed fiends. Chris Smith took the pool with a 12-pounder. Nice fish Chris, we’ll see you guys again soon.
Aug 19th: Another trip sponsored by the HI-MAR club. This time, it was the Point Pleasant Fire Explorers gang. Fluke was on the menu for this party. After several stops, we found the fish localized to a spot off the beach, and it was one nice-sized flattie after the next. We were able to make several drifts on this spot until we were pushed-out by several party boats that were having a bad day and spotted the action we were experiencing. So, a move to the tip of the Hook was in order, and several more nice fluke were boated. The Fire Explorers would like to thank the HI-MAR guys for their generosity, and for making this charter possible. Thanks HI-MAR!
Thanks again for your generous gratuities, we’re always happy to be out on the water with you, and we’re looking forward to seeing you all this season!
Best wishes,
Brett Chamberlain
