This week the CAPT DAVE has been very busy tracking down the Striped bass in the N.Y. Bight area. Some days have been more productive than others. The strong south wind weather pattern blew in foggy conditions and cold water that slowed fishing. As the weather pattern changed to a north wind, it blew in warmer water which made fishing more productive. The bass do not seem to be holding in one area and several stops have been necessary to make a catch. Hopefully the stormy and foggy weather will leave and a summer pattern will begin. More blues have been appearing in the catch but also the Striped Bass have been the largest of the season so far.
May 15th. Ramapo Communications Corp headed by Rich Pirro. Rich and his crew are regulars on the CAPT DAVE. On this charter the fishing was a bit on the slow side but Rich and his crew managed to make a few nice catches for the day. Andrew Nesce from Throgsneck, N.Y. was the pool winner on this trip. Thanks guy always a pleasure to fish with you.
May 16th A.M. The Federal Electric gang headed by Patrick Thompson. Another group that are regulars on the CAPT DAVE. This day the weather gods were not favorable to this group. A south wind and zero visibility hampered fishing conditions on this charter. They had a slow pick of blues, and as you can guess, the fog broke at the end of the day, on the ride back to the dock. Top catches went to Eric Caban with the first fish and Patrick Thompson with the biggest. Nice fish guys.
May 16th P.M. The Rick Gardner party. With the fog lifting and Capt Mick at the helm, The Capt. Dave headed out to Roamer light and had a few picks of short stripers. Capt. Mick than headed to the Knoll where the waters were calmer and the bite hotter. Walter Dudek of Barnegat, NJ was the pool winner and high hook on this charter with a limit of Striped Bass and largest over all. Congrats Walter!
May 17th. Our good friends, the Sam Rockaway party were aboard. A strong north wind and hope of a break in the weather sent us off to Roamer Shoals. As we anchored we picked a few short bass and the seas and wind picked up to 40 knots. This made fishing conditions poor and to be on the safe side we returned to the dock. Call me again Sam, we hope the weather will better for your next outing.
May 17th P.M. The Van Ness construction party. With a poor weather forecast this party decided to give it a try. With a strong north wind and Capt. Mick at the helm, off this crew went. Capt Mick made several stops for this group and even with the poor condition this hardy group was able to make a catch of bass and blues. The pool winner of this charter was Ed Suarez. Nice fish Ed.
May 18th. The CDI Services LLC. Party out of Stanhope. At first glance I could see this party came to catch not to fish. Making several stops at Roamer, the Knoll, and the tip of the hook. This party had a nice catch of blues and a few real large Striped bass. The top fisherman of this group was Chris Tuscano with a limit of bass and also taking the pool for largest bass. Nice going Chris you have bragging rights till your next charter. Great guys and are always welcome aboard the CAPT DAVE.
We hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day and we look forward to Catchin’ Up with you again!
