Hello from the crew of the CAPT. DAVE,
Be sure to stop-by our website at http://www.CAPTDAVE.net
This week, Glen and I provided our charters with live and fresh peanut
bunker in order to give the customers of the CAPT DAVE a bit of an edge over
the other boats. This was the last week for fluke fishing, and we now must
target other species. On order will be bottom fish (sea bass, ling, black
fish, etc.), blues, striped bass, and weakfish.
Aug 30th: Long time customers the Peaquanake American Legion. This group
is made up of hardcore flukers. A trip to the 9& 10 buoys in the Reach
channel resulted in a respectable catch of big fluke with a few blues mixed
in. Your trusty first mate netted live peanut bunker which did the trick.
Larry Gorrell took the pool with a 4-pound fluke on peanut bunker. See you
guys next year! Thanks, and best wishes to Bill Henderson.
Aug 31st: The ILC group, headed by Neil “Lucky” Luciano from Monmouth
Beach. This is the eighth year in a row for this gang, and while the past
two of their trips were plagued by poor weather conditions, this year it was
picture perfect, and under the schools of peanut bunker were large fluke.
This group put a hurting on these fish with many nice flatties being boated.
Top honors of the day went to Phil Vilapiano of Oakland Raiders ‘77 Super
Bowl fame with his big fluke caught on live peanut bunker. See you guys
next year! And those were great sandwiches, Neil!
Sept 1st: The Hispanics United of Elizabeth, NJ. This group opted for a
split charter: ½ day porgies & ½ day fluke. Several stops in the Reach
channel were made, but there was only a poor pick of porgies. A change over
to fluke was in order, and fishing under the schools of peanut bunker
resulted in the boating of several nice fish. Top honors of the day went to
Betsy A. Ponte from North Brunswick with her big fluke. You know what we
always say: women always out fish the men. Nice catch Betsy!
Sept 2nd: Vinnie and family from Bergen County. This group wanted
bluefish, and the blues were happy to give them action. In less than a
minute, the first fish was on, and there was hot action all day. This group
was happy to practice catch and release after their table fare was caught.
A nice family, they are welcome back any time. The biggest fish was caught
by Madeline Dellapesca with an 11-pound blue. See, again the females out
fished the men.
Sept 4th: Brian Incremona and family. First, a shot at the bluefish, and
after a few were boated, we switched to fluke in the Reach channel,
resulting in a slow pick. Pool winner honors on this charter went to Brian
JR. Nice going Brian. A nice family, they are welcome aboard the CAPT DAVE
any time.
Sept 6th: The Wachovia party from Short Hills, headed by Chris Walash.
This party gave it a try for fluke. The huge schools of peanut bunker that
were roaming the Reach channel in the prior week were not present. Several
stops produced only a slow pick of fish. Ian Purdue was the lucky
fisherman of the day, taking the pool with a nice fluke. A nice gang, we
hope to see them on a striper charter.
Sept 8th: The Wade Ray Construction Co. from Monmouth. Another group
wanting fluke. A trip down the Reach channel provided only a slow pick of
fish. Hoping that the ocean calmed down from several days of major swells,
we took a ride to the tip of the hook. Finding the rip fishable, this party
was able to boat some nice fluke. Top fish honors went to Tom Connor from
Hazlet with a nice flattie. A good group, they were all serious flukers.
See you guys again soon!
Sept 8th PM: The Louis Scribelli Party from Whitehouse Station. Capt Kevin
took this group for a try for blues. Chumming heavily, some blues were
boated and some big sand sharks were on hand to spice things up. A switch to
fluke provided a slow pick of fish. It was lots of fun having this nice
group of guys out for a gentleman’s bachelor party.
Thanks again for your generous gratuities, we’re always happy to be out on
the water with you, and we’re looking forward to seeing you all this season!
Best wishes,
Brett Chamberlain
