We had aboard the Todd Klacik charter from Stirling, N.J. We did not land a full limit for all the guys, but we came very close. The eels were the ticket again. All the fish were between 12 lbs. and 24 lbs.! Near the end of the day, Todd himself caught the largest striper ever in his striped bass fishing career, and then decided to release it to fight another day and produce baby bass. What a great finish to a very productive day! We also landed hugh bluefish on the eels and we also cast and jigged up some more. The water temp. in the bay was 51 degrees, but in the ocean, it was up to 55 degrees! Figure that one out. On the bottom fishing front, they a killing hugh porgies, sea bass, and picking blackfish.

The striped bass are here! Eeling , casting, and jigging as well as trolling. You have your choice. Wednesday we had aboard the Ken Miller charter from Frenchtown, N.J. The eeling was a little slow to be honest during this day trip. But we did land them up to 32″ and had monster bluefish. Super big heads on these blues. The evening trip had aboard the Don Norman charter. The bassing was a lot better with everyone in the group landing bass. They were all between 31″ and 32″. We missed some other hits and got bit off a few times by the bluefish. So now is the time to go. If any one wants to go jumbo porgy fishing, it does not get any better than it is right now. They are catching double and triple header porgies on the Sandy Hook Artificial Reef on clams. A lot of very big porgies are coming over the rails with some blackfish mixed in. Dates available to charter are: Oct. 28, 29, 30, 31. And Nov. 1, 2, 4, 5. Wednesday the 27th. of October will be and OPEN BOAT DAY for a full day of striped bass fishing. 7am to 2 pm. Eeling, casting, and jigging. $100.00 per angler, everything included as usual.

Take out your family member or friend and let’s catch some fall stripers. Please call to confirm your spot. 908-472-2684.

Attached, you will see photos of the 2 trips mentioned above.

Saturday we had aboard Jeff and his group of guys for a monster bluefish trip. We motored out to the Mud Buoy and it was non stop action. The water was a very clean green with a temperature of 66 degrees. The guys had the rods bent in half most of the time. We had some double headers and even a triple on at once. They would reel in one or two fish and then take a break as these fish were tackle busters. The smallest one I weighed went 12 lbs. and the largest was 15 lbs.!! These were big, fat, healthy fish. The cooler was full in no time and then the rest of the day it was catch and release. All smiles and sore arms on the way in !! A very funny thing happened as soon as we were anchored up and started fishing. A yellow and black bird landed on one angler’s head and sat there for over 20 minutes. I told him to keep reeling in the bluefish but don’t move you head. You could see the little bird huffing and puffing from being out of breath 10 miles offshore. He needed a rest and provided some great photos and laughs. Thursday I had out on the boat my niece and nephew, Nicole and Richie Reck for their first crabbing trip ever. We went up into the Naversink river using hand lines and chicken for bait. In about 3 hours, they landed 63 keeper crabs. They had great fun pulling up the crabs and trying to scalp them. We lost about another dozen in the process, but they sure had fun. We were even netting number 1 Jimmies swimming by the boat. This was my second crabbing trip of the season and it was great both times. It is surely a great season for crabs. Dates available to charter are: Sept. 14, 15, 16, 18, 20-23. Striper season is right around the corner!! You will see attached the bluefish catch and the bird on the angler’s head.

THANK YOU.

For three anglers we had a pretty good day of fluking. They landed a total of 8 keeper fluke up to a high of 22″. Many fluke were just shy of the keeper mark, reading 17.5″ to 17.75″!! We had plenty of action with the short fluke with many doubles on at times. Even some sea bass. The ratio of keepers to shorts is definately getting better. The water temp. in the bay was up to 82 degrees!! Big bluefish are being chummed in the Mud Buoy area. Bonito and false albacore are showing up in the slicks.

The STRIPED BASS are still out there and the ‘Just One More’ found them yesterday!! We had aboard the Bluefish Bob Donahue charter. We rode around a while looking for bunker schools down the beach, but did not find any. Back to one of my favorite spots in the bay and we started to catch fish right away. By the end of the day, Bob landed the largest striped bass of the day at 38″ and near 25 lbs. !! We did not limit out on the bass but had a steady pick. Other run offs were missed. Many bluefish were landed as well as some monster 4′ smooth dogfish. So if you want a late shot at striped bass, now is the time to go. Fluke fishing in the bay was one of the best in 20 years according to my friend Capt. Al on the Sea Horse who was first mating that day. 150 keepers and hundreds of throw backs. Now the fluke fishing is really starting to heat up . Time to get out there.

Dates available to charter are: July, 1, 4, 6, 13, 14, 16, 18. There are 2 Sundays in those dates.

It was a good day of fluke fishing. In the first minute of the charter the first fluke was landed and it was also the largest of the day. Justin caught a very nice 23″ fluke and then continued to catch many more keepers. We had a good pull of fluke the whole day. All the fish were between 19″ and 23″. We also landed at least 25 short fluke with many just under the regulation mark of 18″. Bluefish we also taking our baits and many were released. The fluke fishing right now is in full swing, and the fishing is quite good . Water temp. in the bay was up to 71.3 degrees but the fish on the bottom were still coming up cool to the touch. Now is the time to go for some great tasting flattie fillets!!!!

OPEN BOAT TRIP: WEDNESDAY THE 23RD. OF JUNE. We will be looking for the largest striped bass with fresh caught bunker.

The “Miss Beach Haven” with Captain Frank Camarda had a charter last week from Rusling Paving and Concrete of Trenton out for a day of fishing. The group had a great time, tookhome quite a few fish meals, and totally enjoyed the day. On Saturday Captain Frank fished for fluke and managed to pull quite a few keepers despite having to try several different spots. Pool winner was a 7.5-pound flattie. On Sunday they wreck fished with good success and managed a good catch of sea bass in the 1-3 pound range.
The “Star Fish” with Captain Carl Sheppard fished two parties last Saturday. The morning party boated over 200 black sea bass up to 5.25 pounds. They also caught over 10 large blackfish which had to be released. The afternoon group was a bachelor party which managed to put a good number of sea bass up to 3.5 pounds in the cooler in addition to having four hours of fun and festivity. On the way in they stopped for some bird play and closed out the day with some feisty 2-pound bluefish on metal lures.
Captain John Koegler of the “Pop’s Pride” is now ready to go after some extra spring work to upgrade the entire boat. Captain John is itching to get into some of the solid wreck fishing in addition to heading offshore for some blue fin tuna.
Captain Fran Verdi on the “Drop Off” was off the water for a few days as he got re-powered with a new 300 hp engine. He too is looking to get into the sea bass fishing in 90-100 feet of water as well as some of the blue fin tuna. In addition to charters he is running several open boat trips in the upcoming days.

The “Miss Beach Haven” with Captain Frank Camarda fished for black sea bass last weekend and found a good number of fish, but putting keepers on the deck took some work. Most of the keepers on Saturday were in the 1-3 pound range. Pool winner was Ray from Waretown with a 3-pounder. Sunday’s fishing was hampered by strong winds and high seas of 4-6 feet. Most fish were 1-2 pounds. The pool winner Sunday was Richie with a 2+ pounder. Next week the “Miss Beach Haven” will be targeting fluke as well as sea bass.

Captain Lindsay Fuller has announced that he has brought his boat, “June bug” back to Beach Haven from its winter quarters in Manteo, North Carolina.
Captain Fran Verdi of the “Dropoff” is continuing to run open boat trips for wreck fishing, fluke drifting, and striped bass fishing. This is a good way to go fishing with a pro without paying the price of a full charter.

Yesterday we had aboard the famous Bluefish Bob Donahue. He and his charter limited out with large stripers in just over an hour! ANOTHER FULL LIMIT of striped bass, including trophy tags being filled out aboard the “Just One More” for 4 anglers. We had double headers on multiple times and even a triple. We were throwing back keepers as well as some short bass. The monster bluefish were around the boat all day gorging on rain fish. We caught plenty on our clam baits, but also caught them on topwater plugs!! That action lasted about 4 hours. The stripers were up to a high of 34″. The water temperature was up to 65 degrees in Sandy Hook Bay, but that is only on the surface. The water is still much cooler down below. If you want to catch your striper, now is the time!!

Dates available to charter are: June 7, 8, 13 [Sunday], 15-19. FISH ON !
